A Variety of Birds

May 1st

This morning Mike and I went back to the boardwalk at Magee Marsh.  The weather was nice, and the winds were blowing from the southwest so there were more birds there today.  We saw a Black-throated Blue Warbler and got a quick look at a Prothonotary Warbler.  We also saw a Least Flycatcher and a Blue-headed Vireo.

One nice thing about being on the boardwalk this time of year is running into old friends and acquaintances.  We saw two old friends who are members of the Toledo Naturalists Association which is an organization we have been involved with.  We also ran into some ladies who travel here every year and stay for two or three weeks during the peak migration.  They stay at an inexpensive motel in Oregon, Ohio and go to the boardwalk and other birding spots every day.  It’s always great to see these enthusiastic diehards.

After leaving Magee we went to the woodlot at Metzger Marsh.  Sometimes this little woodlot is dead but other times like today, it can be a great spot.  We found two new warblers the Cape May and the Nashville.  As we were driving down the causeway to leave, we spotted a Snowy Egret.

  1. Good to see the warblers every spring and catch up with old friends. Sounds like the "Boardwalk" is going to be good this year.
